How to Measure for Your Estimate
The configurator prices your awning or screen from the dimensions you enter, so a decent rough measurement gets you a realistic estimate. Don't sweat perfection — we professionally measure every project before final pricing and fabrication. Your tape measure gets you close; ours makes it exact.
What you'll need
- A tape measure — a 25 ft or longer locking tape is easiest for wide openings.
- A helper to hold the far end on anything wider than you can reach.
- Something to note the numbers on, and a quick photo of the space if you plan to send us a message.
Measure in feet and inches, write down the exact number, and round conservatively — when in doubt, note the smaller figure and tell us. Measure twice; if two passes disagree, take a third.
The three dimensions
Width
Measure the horizontal opening you want covered, end to end — wall edge to wall edge, post to post, or the full span of the area you want shaded. Openings aren't always square, so measure at more than one height (for screens: top, middle, and bottom of the opening) and write down each number. For an awning, also note where the housing would mount and anything in the way — lights, downspouts, trim, vents.
Height (screens)
Measure vertically from the surface the screen seals against (floor, deck, or sill) up to where the housing would mount. Measure at the left side, the middle, and the right side — floors slope more often than you'd think, and the difference matters. Note which surface is at the bottom: concrete, wood decking, or stone.
Projection (awnings)
Projection is how far the awning extends out from the wall when open. Measure from the mounting wall straight out to where you want the shade to end — over the table, past the edge of the patio. Check for obstructions overhead and in the path: soffits, gutters, ceiling fans, door swings, and tree branches.
What we can build
Every product is made to order within these ranges. If your rough numbers land inside the range, configure it online for an instant estimate; if you're near an edge — or outside it — talk to us and we'll figure out the right approach.

Recovering an existing awning? Measure the frame you have — width across the roller and projection along the arm — and we'll size the new fabric to your frame's exact dimensions.
Your numbers get you an estimate. Ours get you a build.
Rough measurements are only for the online estimate. Before anything is fabricated, our team measures your space professionally and you confirm the final price — production does not start until both have happened. If your tape was off, nothing is lost: the estimate adjusts, and you decide whether to proceed.
